The Chartered accountancy program has three stages –Foundation, Intermediate and Final. To clear each one of them, a student has to take the following exams – Common Proficiency Test (CPT), Integrated Professional Competence Course (IPCC) and the Professional Competency Examination, or the Final examination.


Common Proficiency Test (CPT)
Common Proficiency Test (CPT) is an entry level test for the CA course.


Students who have passed their 10 + 2 can enrol for the Common Proficiency Test (CPT). Registrations for CPT are open all year round. The exam is conducted twice a year in May and November. Students have to ensure that they register at least 10 months before the examination.


Test Pattern and Subjects
It tests students on four subjects— Fundamentals of Accounting, Mercantile Laws, General Economics and Quantitative Aptitude. This test is of 200 marks. This test is divided into two sessions of two hours each with a break in between. CPT is an objective type test with negative marking.

SESSION I (Two sections, two hours, 100 marks)
Section A: Fundamentals of Accounting (60 marks)
Section B: Mercantile Laws (40 marks)
SESSION II (Two sections, two hours, 100 marks)
Section C: General Economics (50 marks)
Section D: Quantitative Aptitude (50 marks)

  • 0.25 Negative Mark for every wrong question
  • A candidate is required to secure a minimum of 30 per cent marks in each Section and a minimum of 50 per cent marks in aggregate in all the four Sections to pass the Common Proficiency Test
